Pentabell wish to express their condolences for the passing of Prince Philip, the Duke of Edinburgh, at the age of 99 years, and Queen Elizabeth’s husband of 73 years.
Prince Philip had been described by Queen Elizabeth as, “my strength and my stay”.
The Royal Couple created long-lasting friendships across the World. It was also Prince Philip in 1997 who reassured his Grandson, Prince William, to walk behind Diana’s coffin saying, “If you walk, I will walk with you”. Prince Philip’s letters to Diana showed his concern, his empathy, and his understanding of her plight. Prince Philip is someone that the British Public have greatly respected throughout his 73 years of marriage, and his steadfast performance of his public duties well in to his 90’s.
A prominent example of Prince Philip’s personal contribution was the Duke of Edinburgh’s award scheme. Launched in 1956, with the German educationist Kurt Hahn, a scheme that operated in more than 140 Countries, and encouraged more than 4 million volunteers since its inception. The Duke of Edinburgh continued to attend in to his 90’s to honour the highest achievers, who the Duke had inspired for acts of public benevolence. This award scheme trained many future leaders to have the skills they would need “to have the nerve to lead”.
Prince Philip had met Queen Elizabeth when she was 13 years old, and he was 5 years her senior, with Prince Philip attending the renowned Gordonstoun, a Scottish Boarding School started by Hahn, after his exile from Germany. Gordonstoun educated many famous pupils, including 3 generations of British royalty, and Gordonstoun instilled in Prince Philip the importance of education to serve the Community, and the importance of experiential learning.
Philip Mountbatten-Windsor served his people loyally, and gave great service to his Country, and to the Royal Family.
On a personal note, having attended Buckingham Palace in 2018, for one of the Queen’s Garden Parties, it was visible the great love the British people have for Prince Philip, and Queen Elizabeth. An almost unspoken respect for their unflinching Service, since the Queen’s reign commenced on 6th February 1952, and the Queen’s Coronation on 2nd June 1953. Prince Philip has been a cornerstone for the enduring popularity of the British Royal Family, and has indeed been, “the strength and the stay” of Queen Elizabeth throughout 73 years of glorious marriage.
